IHG One Rewards: elite tiers, Reward Nights and who it actually fits

IHG’s cards do a lot of the work: status up to Platinum, elite night credits every January and the fourth award night free. Here is what each tier gets you, how Reward Night prices move, and when IHG is the right home for your nights.

Snapshot: what IHG One Rewards is and how status works

IHG One Rewards grades members into four elite tiers by qualifying nights or points in a calendar year: Silver at 10 nights, Gold at 20 nights or 40,000 points, Platinum at 40 or 60,000, and Diamond at 70 or 120,000.

Elite tiers and key benefits

Benefits stack upward. Points never expire for elite members, and every tier gets 2 p.m. late checkout. Upgrades and early check-in start at Platinum, and free breakfast appears as a welcome-amenity choice at Diamond.

Milestone Rewards

IHG adds a Milestone Reward every 10 nights from 20 to 100 nights. At 20 nights you choose from bonus points, food and beverage rewards or a Confirmable Suite Upgrade; at 40 and 70 nights you choose two, with options that include Confirmable Suite Upgrades and an Annual Lounge Membership.

Editorial take: Platinum is where IHG status starts to change the stay (upgrades, early check-in), and two cards hand it to you outright. Diamond adds breakfast as a choice, which matters most on long trips.

Award redemption

The short version: dynamic prices with no blackout dates, a 5,000-point floor, and a fourth night free if you hold an IHG card.

Award flexibility (editorial judgment): No blackout dates, a 5,000-point floor and the cardmember fourth night free help. Dynamic pricing and limited transfer options hold it back.

How to earn status, and the cards that matter

You earn status by nights or points, but IHG’s member terms say points from U.S. IHG credit card purchases and Chase transfers do not count toward status. Cards help instead by granting a tier, adding Elite Night Credits each January and on spend, and offering spend thresholds for higher tiers.

Transferable points

We found no standing, officially published status match or challenge on ihg.com.

Card status is rented, not owned. It lasts only while you keep the card, the annual fee recurs, and spending money you would not otherwise spend to reach a threshold is never worth it.

The Credit Card Rewards Optimizer routes your real monthly spending across cards, lets you set IHG as your primary hotel chain, and shows when annual spend unlocks free nights or status.

Best fit for traveler types

Hotels have no hubs, so fit depends on footprint and travel style. Before you commit, check that IHG has hotels you would choose anyway in the places you go most.

Who IHG is not for

Sources and verification

Benefits change. Hotel programs and card issuers revise tiers, award prices and card perks often, sometimes mid-year, and many elite benefits are "subject to availability" at the hotel. Everything here was checked against the program’s or issuer’s own pages on October 19, 2026. Treat it as education, not advice, and confirm the current terms before you book, apply for a card or change how you spend.

This guide uses IHG One Rewards’s own pages and press releases and the card issuers’ pages. Where an official page did not confirm a detail, we left it out or listed it below.
